Adoption

Potential pet adopters must complete a pre-screening application before meeting any of the animals outside of their kennel or cage and meet a list of requirements before adopting.

Minimum Requirements for Adoption

  • Must be at least 18 years of age with a valid U.S. government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license or state issued identification (ID)
  • Must have landlord/property owner approval
  • No history of animal cruelty
  • Must sign an agreement acknowledging that they can spend the time and resources necessary to provide the training, medical treatment and proper care for the pet

Pre-Screening for Visitations

Potential pet adopters must complete a pre-screening application before meeting any of the animals outside of their kennel or cage. The pre-screening will give the Linda L. Kelley Animal Shelter a better understanding of the potential adopter’s expectations for a pet, lifestyle and the environment in which a new animal would be placed.

Once the pre-screening application has been completed, the potential adopter will be matched with a member of our staff to review the application and help you find your potential match. Please fill out the appropriate pre-screening form:

Note: Completing a pre-screening form DOES NOT place a hold on an animal or guarantee adoption.

Adoption Fees

Fees associated with adopting an animal from the shelter help to cover adoption services. The cat fee is $40, the dog fee is $75, the small animal fee is $10 and the livestock fee is $15.

Things to consider before adoption:

  • Adopting a new pet is a long-term commitment
  • You should be sure ALL family members are on board with a new pet
  • While visiting the shelter, keep in mind that it is a stressful place for many animals and they may not show well in their kennels/cages
