Meet the Economic Development Staff

Julie Oberg, Director

Julie Oberg was appointed Economic Director for Calvert County in January 2022. Previously, she was with the State of Maryland for more than 18 years, most recently serving as the Deputy Secretary of Agriculture, managing the day-to-day operations of the agency to help ensure its programs continue to serve, promote and regulate the state’s agriculture industry. She served as communications director for the departments of Agriculture and Environment. Oberg served on the Critical Area Commission from 2019 to 2022. She was President of the Communications Officers of State Departments of Agriculture (COSDA) from 2016-2017. Ms. Oberg previously worked at Hill and Knowlton, an international public affairs firm, in Washington, DC, focusing on health and biotech clients. She also worked for the American Psychiatric Association handling communications for their Office of Government Relations.

Ms. Oberg is a member of the Maryland Economic Development Association (MEDA). She resides on a small farm in Calvert County with her husband and three children.

Danita Boonchaisri, Deputy Director/Business Development Manager

Danita Boonchaisri, Deputy Director, holds a B.S. in communications and an M.S. in business management from University of Maryland University College. She has more than 20 years of experience in the fields of marketing and communications and over 15 years of experience in economic development. Ms. Boonchaisri is responsible for managing the Calvert County Industrial Park and Patuxent Business Park. She is a business ombudsman for the county, a commercial site plan monitor on behalf of the business community and administrator of the Calvert Economic Development Loan Fund (CEDLF). Prior to joining the Department of Economic Development, she served as director of the Small Business Development Center, Southern Region, and the Entrepreneur and Leadership Center at the College of Southern Maryland. She also worked as a senior administrator and publication manager at the American Physical Society.

She is a member of the Maryland Economic Development Association (MEDA) and the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). She is also a 2008 graduate of Leadership Maryland.

Kathy MacAdams, Business Retention Specialist

Kathy MacAdams, Business Retention Specialist, holds a B.S. degree in business management and an M.S. in business from the University of Maryland, University College.  Her experience stems from federal government analysis, business assistance and academic business teachings.  In addition, Ms. MacAdams is certified in Import/Export and Business Consulting.

Prior to joining the department, Ms. MacAdams was a business consultant for the Small Business Development Center, Southern Region (SBDC) where she assisted the small business community in all life cycles.  She also worked for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), Department of the Navy as an analyst for over 10 years. She is also a 2020 graduate of Leadership Southern Maryland.

Hilary Dailey, Tourism Program Specialist

Hilary Dailey, Tourism Program Specialist, holds a BA in Psychology from Lycoming College and an MTA (Masters in Tourism Administration) with a concentration in Destination Management from The George Washington University. She is a certified Tourism Ambassador for Maryland and was appointed to her current position in September 2018. Ms. Dailey sits on several boards including the Maryland Destination Marketing Organization (MDMO), the Southern Maryland Heritage Area Consortium (SMHAC) and the Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum Advisory board. 

Prior to joining the department, Ms. Dailey served as vice-president in charge of marketing for Scorpion Brewing Co., a local Calvert County microbrewery, education director for the Bayside History Museum, and president of the Friends of the Chesapeake Beach Railway Museum. Prior to moving to Calvert County, Ms. Dailey worked at the Smithsonian Institution in the membership travel and tourism department.
