2022 Therapeutic Recreation Summer Camps

The Calvert County Department of Parks & Recreation Therapeutic Recreation Services is pleased to offer multiple summer camp options for individuals with special needs this year.

Camp Calvert 


PLEASE NOTE: This camp has been cancelled due to low enrollment, however we are making inclusive accommodations for our Cool Kids Camps, please call for more information. 410-535-1600 ext. 8204 or 8205.

Camp Calvert is for children and youth ages 5-21 years (camper must be 5 by June 21, 2022 – no exceptions!) with various disabilities to participate in the same beneficial and fun programs found at a traditional camp. Personal care will be available for medications, g-tubes and personal hygiene.  NO TRANSPORTATION WILL BE AVAILABLE TO/FROM CAMP. Camp will run Monday-Friday, June 21 - July 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Calvert Country School in Prince Frederick. Cost is $700 per camper. Activity # 573993

TR Adventure Camp

This teen camp is for individuals ages 13-21 years who have functioning disabilities that affect their social and emotional abilities. This camp promotes appropriate peer interaction and community integration through daily field trips in Maryland, Virginia and D.C. Some outings may be adventure based and may consist of high adventure activities such as rock climbing, kayaking, ropes courses and much more! NO PERSONAL CARE WILL BE PROVIDED. NO TRANSPORTATION  WILL BE AVAIALBE TO/FROM CAMP. Camp will run Tuesdays and Thursdays onlyJune 21-July 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Calvert Country School in Prince Frederick. Cost is $600 per camper. Activity # 575990

TR Tot Camp

This camp is designed to allow children ages 3-5 years with various disabilities to attend a week-long, half-day camp. Children will participate in traditional camp games, crafts, sports and fitness activities. Campers must bring their own lunches. Children in diapers or pull ups will be accepted. Camp will  run Monday - Friday, July 18-22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mt. Hope Community Center (Activity # 574990) and Southern Community Center (Activity # 574991). Cost is $85 per camper.

Sports Variety Inclusion Camp

This camp is for youth ages 8-16 years with and without special needs to stimulate and enhance physical functioning through various active sports events. This program will also enhance enhance social and functional ability as well as quality of life. Camp will be outside, campers will need to bring all necessary exercise and  sports gear as as water bottle and a packed bag lunch each day. Children must be able to participate with minimal assistance. Camp will be held Monday-Friday, July 25-29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hallowing Point Park. Cost is $100 per camper. Activity # 571930

Listen to Your ART Inclusion Camp

This program is designed for individuals ages 8-16 years with various disabilities who are interested in participating in a week of exploring different musical and art mediums in a friendly and supportive environment. Mediums will rotate throughout the day and cost includes all materials necessary. Campers will need to bring a packed bag lunch each day. Campers must be able to participate with minimal assistance. Camp will run Monday-Friday, August 1-5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Harriet E. Brown Community Center. Cost is $100 per camper. Activity # 571931

TR Aquatic Camp

This camp is for individuals ages 8-16 years with special needs. Participants will meet at the Hall Aquatic Center daily for a week of aquatic activities. Campers will participate in group swim lessons, crafts, water safety activities, aquatic exercise and open swim. Campers will need to bring all swim gear necessary, including sunscreen, as well as a bag lunch. Non-swim activities will take place outside in a fenced area. Campers must be able to participate with minimal assistance. Camp will run Monday-Friday, August 8-12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at  Edward T. Hall Aquatic Center. Cost is $125 per camper. CPR Cool Kids Camp

This camp is available for inclusion  in all areas of the County. TRS will assist with accommodations for those who would like to participate with fellow peers. 1:1 assistance is not available, however staff will be increased to assist with integration and participation. Campers must be able to adhere to camp rules with minimal assistance. Camp runs Monday-Friday, June 21-August 12 (no camp 7/4) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at multiple locations throughout the County. Please contact TRS to see if this is an option for your child. 

All camps require pre-registration. Please contact Joy or Emily for registration by phone 410-535-1600 ext. 8204 or 8205. Parent or guardian must complete and return the registration form before registration is considered complete.
