Maryland Restaurant Relief Fund Grant

The Maryland Restaurant Relief Fund Grant provides financial relief to locally owned and operated restaurants, caterers, B&Bs with food service, food trucks and breweries/wineries that have experienced significant economic hardship or unusual expenses because of the COVID-19 public health emergency. 

The relief program is funded through Maryland’s RELIEF Act 2021. The grant may be used for expenditures related to operational expenses, business interruption or unusual expenses incurred due to the public health emergency. Repayment is not required for any funds received through the grant program.

Grants will be awarded in the following categories and amounts:

  • Small restaurant (single owner with no employees and 1-7 FTE employees): $6,000
  • Large restaurant (8 or more FTE employees): $12,000

Eligibility Criteria

Establishments must:

  • Be a legally recognized business in good standing with the State of Maryland as determined by the MD Department of Assessments and Taxation (SDAT);
  • Be current on all county tax liabilities (paid in full);
  • Have no outstanding/open zoning or permitting code enforcement issues with the county;
  • Have a physical business presence in Calvert County; and
  • Not be a franchise or national chain (unless able to provide proof of local ownership and operation).

Maryland Hospitality Relief Fund Grant

The Maryland Hospitality Relief Fund Grant provides financial relief to locally owned and operated hospitality businesses that have experienced significant economic hardship or unusual expenses because of the COVID-19 public health emergency. 

The relief program is funded through Maryland’s RELIEF Act 2021. The grant may be used for expenditures related to normal operating costs, purchase of PPE, sanitization services or other COVID-19 related costs. Repayment is not required for any funds received through the grant program.

Grants will be awarded to eligible applicants based on a pro-rata share of the funds based on room counts up to the program maximum.

Eligibility Criteria

Establishments must:

  • Have a physical presence in Calvert County; 
  • Be current on all county tax liabilities (paid in full);
  • Be a legally recognized business in good standing with the State of Maryland as determined by the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation (SDAT);
  • Have no outstanding/open zoning or permitting code enforcement issues;
  • Have contributed to Calvert County Hotel/Lodging Fee in 2020;
  • Own, rent or lease a permanent hotel location in Calvert County that is open as of March 31, 2021;
  • Have a minimum of 10 sleeping rooms, or if bed and breakfast, have at least five sleeping rooms; and
  • Be subject to the State of Maryland Sales and Use Tax.
