COVID-19 Status
Calvert County Government is taking all necessary measures to protect public health and welfare. It is important to follow public health recommendations, advisories and protective actions to slow the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and limit the number of people infected. Most current information is on the Calvert County COVID-19 Virtual Resource Center.
All county offices and park buildings will be closed, there are no water fountains available.
- Capacity at each park will be adjusted to maintain social distancing.
- Patrons will not be allowed to wait at a park gate to gain entry once capacity is reached.
- Exercise activities such as walking, hiking, or running are permitted while adhering to 6-foot social distancing measures.
Holiday Hours
County offices will be closed for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on January 18. All nature parks and natural resources sites will be open their regular hours.
Trail Closures
Battle Creek Cypress Swamp: The boardwalk will be temporarily closed for reconstruction effective January 5, 2021. Trails leading to the meadow will remain open. Visitors should obey all trail closure signs and stay alert for construction traffic. Construction is expected to take several months; actual duration is dependent on weather and site conditions. The nature center remains closed to the public.
Controlled Burn Planned for mid-January through February 28. Dates to be announced. Be prepared for last minute changes due to weather and staffing. The following parks will be closed to the public during the burn.
- Battle Creek Cypress Swamp (2880 Grays Road, Prince Frederick)
- Gatewood Preserve (2800 Grays Road, Prince Frederick)
- Biscoe Gray Heritage Farm (2695 Grays Road, Prince Frederick)
Citizens are advised that smoke will be visible in the immediate area and emergency vehicles will be stationed along Grays Road. Controlled burning helps rejuvenate meadow vegetation by removing excessive thatch buildup, removing invasive plant species and stimulating the germination of native warm season grasses.
