Appeal Landfill

(NOTE: Residential furniture, mattresses/box springs, Freon appliances and chargeable materials must be taken to Appeal Landfill.)

Drop-Off and Vehicle Restrictions

No tractor trailers or single-unit vehicles over 30 feet in length will be permitted across the Appeal Landfill scales between the hours of 6 and 8 a.m. Monday through Friday, and 7 to 9 a.m. Saturday. Vehicles with a total length greater than 38 feet will not be permitted across the Appeal Landfill scale without prior approval from the Solid Waste Division Chief.

Enforcement of Safety Rules for Commercial Haulers at the Appeal Transfer Station

Waste Management, Inc., which operates the Appeal Transfer Station, has requirements for personal protective equipment (PPE) to preserve the safety of its workers and customers. Effective January 1, 2019, the following requirements for PPE will be enforced at the Appeal Transfer Station.

1. The minimum acceptable level of PPE is a hard hat and a class 2 safety jacket, vest or shirt. The PPE must be worn as the outer most layer of clothing.
2. Commercial vehicle drivers must wear the minimum acceptable level of PPE at all times when using the Appeal Transfer Station.

Failure to comply with PPE requirements will result in refusal to unload the vehicle.

Tip Fees

The following tip fees (the cost per ton) of solid waste disposed of at the transfer station or in the landfill) are effective July 1, 2018. View the Appeal Landfill Fee Schedule for a complete listing of chargeable materials.
Effective July 1, 2018:
All out-of-county and commercial customers: $80.54 per ton
Calvert County residents with chargeable loads: $72.49 per ton

The tip fees (the cost per ton of solid waste dumped at the transfer station) apply for all solid waste from commercial customers, Calvert County residents and from out of county. The fees apply to chargeable loads of solid waste brought to the Appeal Landfill. The Appeal Landfill charges for the certain items based upon the current fee schedule.

All metal is accepted at most sites. Freon appliances are accepted at the Appeal Landfill only. There is no charge for metal disposal.

Tire disposal: $178.00 per ton
(no change in rate July 1, 2018)

Payment Information
The Calvert County Solid Waste Division accepts payment by cash or check only. Credit card and debit card payments are not accepted. Customers may establish a revolving charge account subsequent to bonding with Calvert County, secured by either a cash bond or letter of credit.
